East Alabama Mayors Association

The Mayors in the ten counties encompassing the East Alabama Commission’s service area formed the East Alabama Mayors Association in September 2008. The Mayors Association meets on a quarterly basis, and membership is open to all the mayors in the ten-county area. The purpose of the Mayors Association is to further the relationship of municipal governments within East Alabama, to provide a forum for discussion of municipal issues, to exchange ideas and information, and to serve as a vehicle for common cause. The Mayors Association’s meetings are generally held in conjunction with meetings of the Board of Directors of the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission. The Commission hosts the Mayors Association meetings, maintains minutes of Association meetings, and sends out meeting notices. Mayor Charles Merkel of Oak Grove is the current President, and Mayor Gene Robinson of Anniston is the current Vice President of the East Alabama Mayors Association.
